After one of the highest winning scores in BA Pub Quiz history in August, I wanted to make things a little trickier for the September quiz, and it would appear I overshot slightly as we ended up with probably one of (if not the) lowest. It might have been more difficult than expected, but September was wonderfully attended, with Cheese & Fernet retaining their crown and the Cat’s Whiskers improving significantly on last month’s showing to claim second place. Join us again in October – on the third Monday, as the second is a feriado – when the questions will be pitched a little more accessibly. I promise.
Spring is just around the corner (we hope), but before it arrives there’s just enough time for one more winter BA Pub Quiz. So join us on the 12th August for 55 (or 56, if tie-break is required) of the best trivia questions you could ever hope to argue over, with a side order of food and booze (non-alcoholic beverages also available).
The August edition of the BA Pub Quiz was so well-attended that I had to suspend for one month only the normal six player per team rule, as I wouldn’t have had enough answer papers to go round if one more team had been in attendance. It was also so thrilling that I’ve only just recovered sufficiently to publish the results (well, that’s the excuse I’m going with). Cheese & Fernet took the title with Brutal Deluxe in second and A Team Has No Name completing the podium, but there were impressive showings all round. I hope to see everyone again for the September quiz, which will be on Monday 12th – and this time there will be enough answer papers to share out!
Another month, another Buenos Aires Pub Quiz! For our August shindig we’ll be climbing the La Cigale stairs on Monday the 8th for another battle of trivia wits. Come on down! Also, I’m sounding out interest in an Olympic special one-off quiz later in the month which will be entirely sport-themed. We’ll only put this on if there’s sufficient interest, so if you’d be up for a sports quiz (largely but not solely Olympic-themed) on the evening of the 22nd, please comment either below this post or over on our Facebook page, preferably with a rough idea of how many team-mates you might bring along. If enough people are interested, I’ll confirm that event separately. Read on for details of the ‘normal’ August quiz.
Some brave and hardy souls trudged through the rain to join in the July edition of the BA Pub Quiz, and with six teams it was quite a thriller. There were three first-time teams who all did more than respectably, but it was It’s The End Of Our Team As We Know It who grabbed the top spot, building an impressive lead in the second and third rounds before coasting home in the final – wipeout – round. Cheese & Fernet (who suggested the conversion of the final round into a wipeout) took second place, but everyone was a winner really – and not least because it had stopped raining by the time most of us left the bar!
Accusations are flying regarding why Lionel Messi and Gerardo Martino have stepped down from their positions with the Argentine national football team, but we have it on good authority that the real reason – bizarrely under-reported by the media – is that they want to devote more time to brushing up on their geography, world history and mythology in preparation for an assault on the one thing that continues to elude them: a Buenos Aires Pub Quiz title. Whether you fancy yourself as a Messi of trivia or fear you’re more of a Gonzalo Higuaín figure in that crucial final round, you can come along and enjoy yourself again this Monday, 11th July. Okay, you might not actually get to meet Messi or Martino. But then again, no-one can say with absolute 100% certainty that they won’t be there…
