The April Pub Quiz was another well-attended affair, with seven teams battling it out for the right to call themselves Trivia Champions of Buenos Aires for the next few weeks. The victors, not for the first time, were the Cat’s Whiskers, who romped home by four points ahead of Cheese & Fernet, but there were strong showings all round, including from a couple of first time teams.
April is known as a month of clouds and rain in the UK, and although it’s on the other side of the world Buenos Aires hasn’t disappointed in that regard so far this month. One place it definitely won’t be raining (we hope!) is indoors at La Cigale, so join us on the evening of the 11th April for another thrilling night of trivia, arguments over country populations and Gross National Happiness measurements, and free alcohol (for the two top teams). A reminder that you can now Like us on Facebook – our page is here.
The March 2016 Pub Quiz saw a a quite possibly record attendance of 58 people and eleven teams battling it out for the final BA trivia crown of the summer. Things were closely fought at the start, but by the end Cheese & Fernet had pulled clear to score a resounding victory, in a quiz in which every team had an impressive score in at least one of the five rounds. This month’s quiz saw the first picture round (marked out of 8), which will be at least a semi-regular feature from now on.
The stickiness of summer seems to be behind us, but the forecast indicates a high chance of trivia heat when the Buenos Aires Pub Quiz returns for March! Come and pit your wits against the finest minds in Buenos Aires, and enjoy some drinks and good company in the process! And before that, please head over to our brand spanking new Facebook page and give us a like; I’ll be publicising the quiz on there as well as occasionally putting up links to interesting bits of trivia or historical facts I stumble across in the course of researching each month’s quiz (though I won’t be giving away any answers, needless to say!).
The February Pub Quiz was another jam-packed affair, so full up and so closely-fought that I’ve only just managed to recover my senses and put the results online! Cat’s Whiskers were locked in a tight battle with Cheese & Fernet throughout, but came from behind in the final round thanks to being the only team to pick up any points in the wipeout round, and claimed victory. Scores and photos are below, but in some cases I’m struggling to remember which team name matched up to which team, so I’ve used process of elimination. If you’re in one of these photos and I’ve got your team name wrong, please let me know!
|Team||Round 1||Round 2||Round 3||Round 4|
|Cheese & Fernet||10||33||42||42|
|I, Sam, Decree That This Team Will Win||7||26||32||32|
|Translators Should Earn More Money||7||20||24||24|
|Traigan La Picada||5||17||23||23|
|La Nueva Argentina||6||14||19||19|
The second Monday of February is a feriado, which means this month’s quiz is moved to the third Monday of February, and we’ll be having a post-Valentine’s Day test of your trivia knowledge to allow everyone to go out and join in the fun and colour of, er, Buenos Aires’ carnival. The location and time are the same as ever, so I’ll see you on Monday 15th February!
