Some brave and hardy souls trudged through the rain to join in the July edition of the BA Pub Quiz, and with six teams it was quite a thriller. There were three first-time teams who all did more than respectably, but it was It’s The End Of Our Team As We Know It who grabbed the top spot, building an impressive lead in the second and third rounds before coasting home in the final – wipeout – round. Cheese & Fernet (who suggested the conversion of the final round into a wipeout) took second place, but everyone was a winner really – and not least because it had stopped raining by the time most of us left the bar!
|Team||Round 1||Round 2||Round 3||Round 4|
|It’s The End Of Our Team As We Know It||7½||32½||39½||42½|
|Cheese & Fernet||8||28||33½||33½|
|Juan Román Riquelme||7½||21||26½||26½|
|Better In Than Out||7||20½||25||25|
|Joanie Loves Trotsky||6½||21½||24½||24½|
The final round was a wipeout round, meaning that a single incorrect answer resulted in no points being awarded at all for the round. As such, It’s The End Of Our Team As We Know It – who only attempted to answer three questions, but got all three right – were the only team to avoid the trap. The scores above shouldn’t be taken to mean that the others all got ten wrong in the last round. A pattern is emerging here: whenever we’ve had a wipeout round in the final round, only one team has picked up any points at all from it, and on each occasion that team has won the quiz.
